The Wayside Family Restaurants are owned by Rex and Molly Measmer. Rex started his restaurant business career in 1975 with the Showmars Restaurant in Charlotte, followed by McDonald's in 1985. His dream was to one day become a restaurant owner and when the opportunity became available, Rex left McDonald's. In September of 1992 that dream turned into a reality with the opening of the first Wayside Family Restaurant in Oakboro, North Carolina. The Church Street location in Cabarrus County opened in October of 2000. Rex has business partners for his Branchview location.

Sometimes the restaurant business can be extremely demanding, however Rex has great support and help from his entire family who all contribute. His wife, Molly, does the payroll and other various administrative duties for the four locations. He has two children that grew up working in the family business and currently are still involved. In 2005 his daughter, Wendy, received her Bachelor's degree in forensic biology and criminal justice from Guilford College located in Greensboro, N.C. Wendy works as an Office Manager in a medical clinic located in Charlotte, N.C. She does various administrative tasks and marketing for Wayside. In 2009, Christopher, received his Bachelor's Degree in political science at George Washington University in Washington D.C. He works in the restaurant as a manager and occasionally helps with catering events. Chris was elected as County Commissioner in 2010. Rex not only has help from his immediate family, but from many other members of the family as well - truly making Wayside a family oriented restaurant.

Jason Pressley is the co-owner of the Branchview Drive location which was opened in November of 2004. Jason began his career with Wayside in 1992 while a senior at West Stanley High School. After working in the Oakboro location for a total of 12 years, he had the opportunity to become a co-owner. Jason currently resides in Mt. Pleasant with his wife, Candi, and their two children.
